I Can Do Hard Things

A post appeared in my Facebook feed tonight and I wanted to save it here... the original post was from July 22, 2014 when our whole family {minus Connor, who was on a mission in Taiwan} was on a trip in Moab.  On our first outing we wanted to find mud and the scheduled path would be approximately 4 hours of driving.

WELL.....

We ended up probably where NO street legal vehicle should have been and we were beginnig to run out of our bottled water as the 4 hour trip neared the 8 hour mark... we were kind of lost.  We had gone about 8 hours ONE WAY and then tried to figure out if we should "go back"... we kept going forward because we thought we knew the way out of this hellish little canyon that held all kinds of rock formations that we took our 4Runners and Jeep over.

Entry dated 22 July, 2014:
In Elaine S. Dalton's October 2008 General Conference address she said:  "I had a small plate inscribed with a motto that read, "I can do hard things".  That little plate bearing that simple mottow gave me courage.  But now if I could change that motto, it would read:  " In the strength of the Lord, I can do all things."

And I would go one further... "and with the help of my family."  The boys spotted and coached one another through each of the unbelieveable obstacles we tackled Saturday... Their love was truly evident to Greg and I as we watched them care and trust one another in their direction and guidance of one anohter.  As parents, we are truly grateful fo rthe men, husbands and fathers they have become... and this is because we trust them to "Do Hard Things".

We could have asked for NOTHING more on our 30th Anniversary"

At the time this was posted... we, as a family, had NO IDEA what would happen in 30 days!  We had NO IDEA how hard life would be and the new challenges we each would face as we would grieve indifidually and together... Challenges that had nothing to do with driving, mud and rocks... What we learned in Moab would only be a fraction of the motto:  "I can do hard things", but it was one of the steps in our learning process!

Connor's comment when we explained what happened in an email:  "sounds like Stressful Fun".
